very helpful 04/11/10

I am currently taking 150 mg/3x a day.
I didn't realize how effective Lyrica was until I ran out of it. Without it, I felt pain and tenderness in my knees, elbows, hips. I felt like an old person! With only a night more beofer my perscription came in, however, I still didn't know how well it worked. I popped a couple of Tylenol PMs, expecting a comfortable night of sleep. Wrong--my night was horrible! Every sleeping position seemed to aggravate a different part of my body.
I'm really glad I have it but am worried as my pain isn't 100% in check and I'm pretty close to the max (I'm at 450 and max is 600 mg/day). I hope it does not lose effectiveness the longer I take it.

THIS IS AN AMAZING TREATMENT! 09/28/09
Reviewed by:
Location Not Given
After taking Lyrica for only one week I immediately noticed the difference. It definitely helped with the pain! I felt so much better...the best I had since the accident! I felt able to take on many daily tasks and exercises without nearly as much difficulty. I would recommend it to anyone! I experienced no side effects. It is a rather expensive drug, but it is well worth it considering what an effective treatment method it has been for me thus far! :)

Helps me Live (legally) 09/15/09

I was loosing my ability to maintain my job and my recreational choices. Couldn't sleep well (even with ambien), couldn't think well, couldn't enjoy sports that had always been my main stress relief. Felt trapped, but then my reumatologist prescribed Lyrica and it definitely helped. But still have the pain some days and do feel drugged at times. I'm able to exercise but am sluggish sometimes. I've gained 12-15 lbs which is lot for 5ft2in. Working now on putting together some alternatives so it will not be my only option long term.

Lyrica Treatment 08/01/09
Reviewed by:
Location Not Given
I like the Lyrica for stopping my pain in my neck but the pain now has migrated to other parts of my body that Lyrica fails to halt. This pain is constant, but I do not have the awful pain in the neck any longer.
I have gained about 20 lbs and can not lose it, I do not sleep well, I find myself a bit more depressed than before Lyrica.

Ok, but just another money maker 05/14/09
Reviewed by:
Location Not Given
I have been taking this one for sometime now, it helps a little with pain making it less sharp most of the time. But I still have a good deal of pain period, a lot of break thur pain, doesn't do much of anything for the fog, makes breathing harder at times, does NOTHING for the fatigue and at times seems to simply add to it. So does not help me sleep, and oh lord how I could use a good nights sleep, or a three day coma! Over all I think it's a waste of money, and am now looking for something, ONE thing that will actual help ALL the pain, fog, fatigue, and sleepless nights. It's sad when your kids tell you, "mom you look so hurt and tired why don't you try and get some sleep".. Is there any medical professionals out there that actual care anymore about helping patients or is it really all about the money now?

not sure I can put up with the side effects 06/28/08
Reviewed by:
Location Not Given
Side effects are feeling "drunk" 24/7, blurry (really bad) vision, a feeling that the pain is still there but it has simply changed. It's now more diffuse and more of a strong uncomfortable tingling sensation. Not comfortable. Also causes dizziness, walking into walls and I now have painful mouth and lip sores. Gained 5 lbs in three weeks. I was 116 lbs and do NOT want to get fat again.
This med changed all my body function senses. Pain, hunger, the body urge to to use the bathroom...they all feel different and uncomfortable. I've been on many "new" meds over the years and was yanked off of two of the new "designer" drugs do to side effects reported such as DEATH. This med was not my choice as I prefer the meds that have a track record, not the new ones which were shoved through the FDA approval process without being fully tested. I have a bad feeling this is another one which will either be pulled off the market or given a black box warning. Just my opinion. I do NOT want to receive another phone call from my pharmacist telling me to bring back my meds and get blood work done asap again. Been there, done that. I see a pain doc this Monday because my PCP has thrown up his hands. First all, I don't think he really believes that fibro even exists. Secondly, after writing for Norco 10mg for years he's decided I'm "addicted" even though I am following his orders and take only what he prescribes. He told me this was the last norco script and it's up to the pain doc to decide to continue or not. If he wants me off it he better wean me off slowly. Last November I decided on my own to stop the norco and xanax on my own, cold turkey. I wanted to prove to him I wasn't a drug seeking junkie but had real pain and anxiety. WRONG move. I was sick as a dog in bed for 2 weeks. I even had to go to the ER because of the xanax withdrawals (which can be deadly). I was off those meds for about 3-4 months but had to go back on them because of the extreme pain, depression and anxiety. PCP was upset that I went off on my own but more upset that I kept my supply in the med cabinet and started taking them again on my own. He called me "hooked" when I had to go back to him to ask for more 4 months after quitting all my meds. While he wrote the scripts again, calling me "hooked", telling me I was an "addict", telling me to get a good shrink, created a scene, initiated by me, in his office. Told him I may be dependant on meds, as is a diabetic on insulin or a high BP patient on blood pressure meds. Told him to live just one day in my skin. See if he can stand the pain, the fatigue, insomnia, and anxiety without meds to help. Left mad and in tears. I wish our friends the DEA would stick their nose out of doctors' offices and concentrate on illegal drug use. They've made the rounds around my state and it seems most doctors will not prescribe the meds that help if they have the slightest chance of being abused. Well I've got news DEA...Lyrica ISn controlled and people do get "high" on it. Going to crack down on this one too? Go ahead. I'm hoping to be taken off of it.
That all being said, the Lyrica has its good points...the pain is tolerable. It's not sharp, throbbing or aching. It's just a different kind of pain. I still need an opiate though, especially in the middle of the day. Still, I am totally fatigued to the point of exhaustion, even when I sleep 6 hours a night. Taking 75mg instead of 150mg at a time causes what feels like electrical shocks all over my body. After two weeks I now have muscle twitching in my abdomen, fingers, and face. Dry eyes and mouth sores I mentioned before. Hopefully this works for others better than it works for me. Hope the pain doc takes me off of this stuff, increases my opiates (hopefully to a long acting one I can take twice a day only), reinstates my adderal and xanax scripts. Then I can follow my PT's exercise routine and hopefully build some endurance, pain relief, decent sleep patterns. Right now I can't work. I own my own business but can't even fill a couple of orders without laying my head on the desk from the pain and exhaustion. Disability looks like a real possibility now unless I can be helped.
