not sure I can put up with the side effects 06/28/08
Reviewed by:
Location Not Given
Side effects are feeling "drunk" 24/7, blurry (really bad) vision, a feeling that the pain is still there but it has simply changed. It's now more diffuse and more of a strong uncomfortable tingling sensation. Not comfortable. Also causes dizziness, walking into walls and I now have painful mouth and lip sores. Gained 5 lbs in three weeks. I was 116 lbs and do NOT want to get fat again.
This med changed all my body function senses. Pain, hunger, the body urge to to use the bathroom...they all feel different and uncomfortable. I've been on many "new" meds over the years and was yanked off of two of the new "designer" drugs do to side effects reported such as DEATH. This med was not my choice as I prefer the meds that have a track record, not the new ones which were shoved through the FDA approval process without being fully tested. I have a bad feeling this is another one which will either be pulled off the market or given a black box warning. Just my opinion. I do NOT want to receive another phone call from my pharmacist telling me to bring back my meds and get blood work done asap again. Been there, done that. I see a pain doc this Monday because my PCP has thrown up his hands. First all, I don't think he really believes that fibro even exists. Secondly, after writing for Norco 10mg for years he's decided I'm "addicted" even though I am following his orders and take only what he prescribes. He told me this was the last norco script and it's up to the pain doc to decide to continue or not. If he wants me off it he better wean me off slowly. Last November I decided on my own to stop the norco and xanax on my own, cold turkey. I wanted to prove to him I wasn't a drug seeking junkie but had real pain and anxiety. WRONG move. I was sick as a dog in bed for 2 weeks. I even had to go to the ER because of the xanax withdrawals (which can be deadly). I was off those meds for about 3-4 months but had to go back on them because of the extreme pain, depression and anxiety. PCP was upset that I went off on my own but more upset that I kept my supply in the med cabinet and started taking them again on my own. He called me "hooked" when I had to go back to him to ask for more 4 months after quitting all my meds. While he wrote the scripts again, calling me "hooked", telling me I was an "addict", telling me to get a good shrink, created a scene, initiated by me, in his office. Told him I may be dependant on meds, as is a diabetic on insulin or a high BP patient on blood pressure meds. Told him to live just one day in my skin. See if he can stand the pain, the fatigue, insomnia, and anxiety without meds to help. Left mad and in tears. I wish our friends the DEA would stick their nose out of doctors' offices and concentrate on illegal drug use. They've made the rounds around my state and it seems most doctors will not prescribe the meds that help if they have the slightest chance of being abused. Well I've got news DEA...Lyrica ISn controlled and people do get "high" on it. Going to crack down on this one too? Go ahead. I'm hoping to be taken off of it.
That all being said, the Lyrica has its good points...the pain is tolerable. It's not sharp, throbbing or aching. It's just a different kind of pain. I still need an opiate though, especially in the middle of the day. Still, I am totally fatigued to the point of exhaustion, even when I sleep 6 hours a night. Taking 75mg instead of 150mg at a time causes what feels like electrical shocks all over my body. After two weeks I now have muscle twitching in my abdomen, fingers, and face. Dry eyes and mouth sores I mentioned before. Hopefully this works for others better than it works for me. Hope the pain doc takes me off of this stuff, increases my opiates (hopefully to a long acting one I can take twice a day only), reinstates my adderal and xanax scripts. Then I can follow my PT's exercise routine and hopefully build some endurance, pain relief, decent sleep patterns. Right now I can't work. I own my own business but can't even fill a couple of orders without laying my head on the desk from the pain and exhaustion. Disability looks like a real possibility now unless I can be helped.

Lyrica not for me 05/12/08
Reviewed by:
Location Not Given
Although I was excited at the possibility of a "wonderdrug" for my fibro I had limited success with Lyrica. I started at a fairly low dose which made me sort of high and increased my energy. I began doing a lot of things I hadn't done in a while. This did increase my pain and I felt my judgment was clouded because I felt like superwoman,ie I could get away with doing all my favorite things. A lot of my pain symptoms came back and I had to slow down again. My doctor upped my dose and then I got the reverse effect, and became really tired all the time due to difficulty
sleeping at night. I also had severe gastritis at the higher doses

They said since it did'nt work within in the first few days that it wasnt going to work.Today was so bad I sat and cried for three hours, and I had taken this medicine.

amazing! 01/23/08

I have gone undiagnosed for 5+ yrs. Most docs think I have lupus and some FMS symptoms. I have tried everything and once something starts to be less effective I move on to something else. At one point in time I was on 5 diff meds for my "chronic pain". And I've even tried marijuana. Lyrica has truly helped and it is the only med I'm on. I only have one side effect, weight gain. I've gained 25lbs and have had to go back to my "fat" clothes, but I feel amazing compared to 10 months ago when I started taking it.

I get terrible skin symptoms. It feels like a bad sunburn all over, to the point where even wearing clothes can be torture. I also had the problem of abdominal pain and urinary frequency. My doctor said "Let's try Lyrica and see if that helps." One dose and I felt relief. It was that quick. And I do feel even better after taking it for several months. My fibro "fog" is pretty much gone and I sleep pretty well too.

It's helping with the pain a little, so I'll try anything at this point. Hopefully people on this do not plan on getting pregnant any time soon though, as I read Lyrica's study on pregnancy and mice, and deformities, retardation, and fetal death, does not sound good. But I probably won't get pregnant as I cannot bear children with my bad health. Anything that helps out with pain is great!

We tried increasing the dose but instantly I began suffering from severe vertigo. I could not even stand up! I immediately decreased the dose & that symptom went away. Maybe the higher doses would help with the pain, but the side effects are so not worth it. Neurontin now seems like it's not so bad.

Since I began taking this my pain has pretty much gone away, except for shoulder pain from an old injury. The only thing I don't like is the cloudy feeling. I feel too relaxed.. it's different than the fatigue( not as bad). Just be careful driving.

Trying and Praying 12/29/06

I'm trying this drug at the advice of my Dr. He says it will improve my pain, energy, mental alertness, and headaches. I just started it this week and can tell it seems to help my neck & shoulder pain almost immediatly... but it makes me feel groggy or slowed down. Maybe this will improve with time. Thankfully my ins. covers it with a small co-pay otherwise I would not be able to afford it as it is VERY expensive!!!

I am a bit worried about the side effects that I have read about. But so far I have not experienced any of them. It is still to early to know for sure. But it appears that this might be the drug for me.
I actually had significant relief the second day. (about 75% reduction)

Good But Side effects 10/28/06
Reviewed by:

I went on Lyrica 2 months ago. Like others I noticed the initial weight gain. However, I also noticed a change in my vision.
My FMS doctor had me visit my eye doctor to see if there was another reason for my change in vision other than Lyrica.
After seeing my eye doctor, it appears that the weight gain/fluid retention that Lyrica is known for can also increase the swelling of the eyes which can cause the blurry vision. I have noticed increased fluid retention, so this doesn't surprise me.
Lyrica does help with my FMS symptoms, but I'm afraid the side effects are too much for me. I will probably go back on Cymbalta which seemed to work for me.
Just one person's history with the drug.
